Before exploring the workings of a vacuum pump, we must first clarify what a vacuum is. Simply put, a vacuum is a state in which the number of gas molecules in a space is greatly reduced. This is usually measured by pressure. Standard atmospheric pressure is approximately 101.325 kPa, while a vacuum is an environment below this pressure. So, why do we need a vacuum?

 

A vacuum environment has important applications in many fields. In semiconductor manufacturing, a vacuum reduces the interference of impurities in chip manufacturing. In medicine, vacuum pumps are used to aspirate blood and body fluids during surgery. In aerospace, a vacuum environment simulates space conditions and allows for testing the performance of spacecraft. It can be said that vacuum pumps are an indispensable part of modern technology.
